Our 7-mile French Broad river trip is our most popular; carving its way through the Biltmore Estate Property (an 8,000 acre private, protected wilderness) and some of the oldest mountains on earth. All of our trips are self-guided; guests can expect to be on the river for up to 3 hours (dependent upon water/weather conditions) and can see a variety of animals and bird life. The river otter, soft-shell turtle, pileated wood pecker, Carolina wren and the famous great blue heron are all likely to be seen while floating. 7 mile float trip has small waves (up to class 1), easy current, and excellent beginner trip suitable for children as small as 35 lbs. This trip appeals to both novice and enthusiast alike.
NO Pets or Alcohol allowed on property or on the river, we reserve the right to check all coolers and to refuse service to anyone! Don't PUI (Paddle Under the Influence) Bent Creek Public Access, Hominy Creek Public Access, and the French Broad River are all public property. Alcohol and drug use on government property is a Federal offense.

*In September, after Labor day, weekdays and Sunday trips depart only @ 10 AM, 11 AM and 1 PM Saturday trips depart @ 10 AM, 11 AM, 1 PM and 2 PM.
*In October trips only available on weekends unless special arrangements have been made, call for details.

HOW TO PLAN YOUR PADDLE:
*Call to make reservations, as they are recommended...including date, trip time, number of participants/age, & boat selection. Reservations are ONLY guaranteed with a credit card confirmation by an AOC staff member.
You choose your boat...
We offer this 7 mile float trip in canoes for 2 adults and up to 2 children, rafts for 4-6 people, single kayaks and tandem kayaks. (Please see our "Boat Selection" page for pictures and descriptions of our boats available for rental.)
*Arrive at the Asheville Outdoor Center 45 minutes prior to a trip time (10 AM, 11 AM, 1 PM, & 2 PM) for check-in and required safety briefing. Late arrivals will be deferred to next trip time, space permitting. All participants must sign our release form. Participants under 18 must have legal parent/guardian signature!
*After safety briefing, guests board the vans for shuttle to Bent Creek Park, for beginning of 7-mile trip.
*All boaters, boats and vehicles accessing at Asheville Outdoor Center must be off the river and out of the parking lot at the conclusion of each business day (typically 5:00PM), late fee will apply. Any vehicle left in our lot after closing will be towed at the owner's expense.

*All passes are non-transferable. Pass is only valid for individual for whom issued.

Private Boaters Shuttle Rates
7 Mile Float Trip
Per person charge $ 14.00
Includes all boat transportation, parking fees, user fees, and river access. Trips depart as listed above and are subject to space availability. Please arrive at least 45 min. before trip time.
There is a $ 5.00 per person fee for river access only, this includes a parking fee if a vehicle is left in our parking lot. This $5.00 fee is included with private boaters shuttle fee.
All boaters, boats and vehicles accessing at Asheville Outdoor Center must be off the river
and out of the parking lot at the conclusion of each business day (typically 5:00PM), late fee will apply.
Any vehicle left in our lot after closing will be towed at the owner's expense.
