Canoeing
or rafting on a quietwater river can be a relaxing and rewarding
experience, having the proper information before a trip will greatly
help enhance anyone's river experience.!!! We've tried to cover those questions
most frequently asked, if you don't see the answer to your question, give us a
call we'll be glad to help out.
Safety & Liability
We provide you with all the
necessary equipment including instruction and safety video before each trip. It
is your responsibility to follow those instructions. Asheville Outdoor
Center does
not assume liability for injuries or death. All participants must read and sign
an acknowledgement of risks, assumption of risks and responsibility and release
of liability waiver form prior to their trip. Alcohol and drugs are not
permitted on the river and anyone impaired by such will not be allowed to
participate.
During warm months wear shorts, a
t-shirt or bathing suit and shoes you don't mind getting wet. During colder
weather wear appropriate clothing ie; long pants, wind breaker, and a hat.
Don't forget to bring a change of clothes and shoes in case you get wet.
Changing rooms are available.
Q.
What are the trip times that we can rent a canoe, raft
or S.O.T. ?
A. The
Asheville Outdoor Center offers trips at 9:00, 10:00, 11:00 am., and also at 1:00, 2:00 pm. We
also have a sunset trip at 5:30 (check with us on dates for the sunset trip) Be
sure to arrive 30 min. before your trip time.
Q.
How long does this trip take?
A. Our 7 mile
float trip generally takes about 3 hours. Trip times can vary with water
levels, wind, different boat types and individual paddling efforts.
Q.
What are the age requirements ?
A. Children as
young as two years old can participate on our float trip, provided they weigh
at least 35 lbs. Coast guard approved life jackets for children starting at 35
lbs. are available.
Q. Can we pay by credit card?
A. Yes credit
cards are welcome, Mastercard & Visa are accepted.
Q.
Are we allowed to stop along the banks?
A. We ask all
of our guests not to stop along the banks of the river. Both sides of the river
bank are owned by the Biltmore Estate and are posted as no trespassing.

Notes
about safety and boaters/group leaders responsibility.
As with all water related activities, a certain amount of risk is involved
which could lead to injury or even death. It is the responsibility of the trip
leaders to determine if the participants in their group have the skills and
experience to paddle these types of rivers and the class rapids associated with
them. All participants must fill out and sign a release of liability,
acknowledgement of risks form prior to participation. ALL MINORS UNDER THE
AGE OF 18, MUST HAVE PARENT OR LEGAL GUARDIAN SIGN ALSO. No trip leader or
group coordinator may sign for those under 18 years old. These forms are
available at the time reservations are made, and can be sent to you and your
group in advance.
